Our Impact
Smrtspace delivered a full-service diagnostic for our client. This led to the development of a strategic vision and action plan for the space management process to support a leading fast-food chain with its back-of-house restaurant space. The project became a strategic lever for the UK/Ireland business with strong, profitable growth projections.
Our Client
For 90 years, our client has been a strategic supply chain partner to the world’s leading brands. They offer smart, sustainable solutions that help them build stronger, more resilient end-to-end supply chains. They deliver more than 720 million cases to over 26,000 locations worldwide annually.
Our Approach
We helped our client recognise the opportunity to drive profitable growth and value by optimising restaurant storage space resulting in fewer deliveries and a lower cost to serve. The action plan was built around 3 key areas; people, process and systems which developed into a number of foundational pillars that focused on:
- Organisational review – a stronger people structure with recruitment for additional headcount and a supporting training and development programme
- Value quantification – analysis of the current service and identification of future value based on cost to serve reductions through space optimisation
- Service rebrand – reimagined the identity of the service, what it stood for and what it meant to the customers who used it
- Customer engagement – developed a plan to address and improve operational compliance through stronger belief and trust in the service
- Process optimisation – reviewed all of the current tasks and activities and mapped the optimal way forward in terms of process and ways of working
- Data – simplified the information and data that was being used to make space decisions and model different outcomes
- Software assessment – a full appraisal of the existing software including a market review of alternative suppliers leading to a recommended change in supplier
